At Learn Fresh, we recognize the urgent need to address the widening opportunity and achievement gaps in mathematics and social-emotional learning, particularly among students in grades 4-8. Our partnership with the Longwood Foundation has enabled us to amplify our efforts to combat this critical issue for students in Delaware.
The significance of the Longwood Foundation's investment becomes apparent when considering the alarming statistics regarding math proficiency among Delaware's students. According to the latest standardized test results from the Delaware Department of Education, only 30 percent of students in grades 3-8 demonstrated proficiency in math—a decline from 44 percent in 2017. These statistics underscore the critical need for innovative supplemental programs like NBA Math Hoops to bridge the educational gap and empower students for success.
Longwood’s transformative contribution has enabled us to scale our program across the state of Delaware, with a goal to reach 10,000 students by the completion of the 2024-25 school year. Additionally, this partnership has facilitated the hiring of a Learn Fresh Regional Coordinator based in New Castle county, who is instrumental in providing training, support, and coordination for our programs across the region.
