The Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) closed 2024 with 11 dynamic members representing New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, and California. These young professionals, leaders across industries from finance to marketing, played a pivotal role in mentoring new staff and expanding Learn Fresh’s reach. Notably, ELC Chair Haley Mitchell was recognized for her outstanding contributions and elevated to the Board of Directors in Summer 2024.
Over the past year, the ELC made significant strides, formalizing bylaws and procedures and successfully hosting its first self-led fundraising event in April. This event not only raised critical funds for Learn Fresh’s programs but also engaged new supporters in the mission and work of the organization. A social media post from the event shared:
"Last week’s ‘Learn Fresh Futures: Fueling One Million’ fundraising event was a slam dunk! Hosted by @learn_fresh’s Emerging Leaders Council at @recreationnyc in @moxydowntownnyc, guests showed their basketball skills on the half court, enjoyed delicious bites and beverages, and heard firsthand about the impact of our programs.” See the post here!
Looking ahead to 2025, the ELC aims to expand to 25 members and establish two regional cohorts on the East Coast and West Coast to deepen local engagement. Additionally, the council will introduce committees focused on leadership development and long-term sustainability to enhance its impact.
At its core, the ELC serves to raise awareness for Learn Fresh by hosting community events, fundraising, and advocating for equitable education through the power of sports and entertainment. Each member brings a unique background, yet they are united by a shared passion for creating opportunities for young people around the world.
As we continue to grow, we invite more young professionals to join this movement and help shape the future of Learn Fresh! Click here to see our 2024 cohort of Learn Fresh Emerging Leaders.
