San Francisco, CA – June 30, 2025 — For the second year in a row, the Campolindo Sports Analytics Club (CAMPOSAC), a student-led organization, has donated its NCAA Bracket Challenge winnings to Learn Fresh.
The club was founded in the summer of 2023 by high school students Lucas Katz and Shubh Sharma, lifelong sports fans who discovered a growing passion for data science. The idea came naturally from casual conversations they often had about shot percentages, batting averages, and sports stats.
“Sports were one of the most important parts of our lives,” said Lucas. “Playing and watching games was something we did every day. What we didn’t realize at the time was that it was also shaping how we learned to think about numbers, patterns, and problem-solving.” He added, “Sports made math exciting and real—even if we didn’t fully recognize it as math.”
This early passion became the foundation for what is now CAMPOSAC (Campolindo Sports Analytics Club), a space where students explore data science and computer science through the lens of sports.
As part of the club’s mission, Lucas and Shubh outlined two guiding principles:
Each year during March Madness, the club organizes a school-wide NCAA Bracket Challenge, with 100% of the proceeds going to Learn Fresh. In 2024, the club raised over $200, and most recently spring of 2025, over $400, totaling more than $600 to date in donations.
In 2024, CAMPOSAC members were invited to attend the Warriors Math Hoops Regional Tournament, where they presented their donation in person, met student participants, and saw the impact of the program firsthand.
Now in its second year, CAMPOSAC has grown in both size and reach. The club regularly hosts guest speakers from industry, academia, and the professional sports world, including representatives from UC Berkeley and, Miami Heat, among others. CAMPOSAC aims to make math engaging and tangible, just like Learn Fresh accomplishes through its core programs.
“We’re proud to team up with Learn Fresh and support their mission by donating the proceeds from our NCAA Bracket Challenge fundraiser two years in a row,” said Lucas. “And we look forward to continuing that tradition for many years to come.”
Still early in their journey, club members have outlined ambitious goals: hosting college prep workshops, presenting their sports analysis papers at national conferences, and attending industry networking events.
“We’re grateful for the generosity of CAMPOSAC and are truly touched by their pledge to us,” said Rebecca Wong, Chief Program Officer at Learn Fresh. “It’s inspiring to see their passion and drive, not just reinvesting in their own school community, but giving back to younger students as well. They understand how powerful early exposure to STEM learning can be.”
